La bohème Actress Shannyn Sossamon wears clothes that tell a story. Here's how she brings them to life. by Celia San Miguel Hawaï-born actress Shannyn Sossamon integrates her playful fashion sensibility into her screen work. As the carefree, tomboyish Lauren Hynde in 2002's Rules of Attraction, she favored vintage-lloking coats, newsboy caps and bellbottom jeans, and as Mikal in this past fall's Wristcutters:A Love Story, she epitomized grungy cool in loose-fitting hoodies, thermals and button-up flannels paired with colored denim pants and cowboy boots. The 29-year-old star of the CBS vampire drama Moonlight and the upcoming film One Missed Call talks about the art of layering, her anti-heels stance and her minimalist approach to accessorizing. URGE TO SPLURGE "A few months ago I bought a pair of awesome n.d.c. boots from American Rag. They were $400, wich is the most I've ever spent on shoes, but I'll probably wear them till I die. There's something about them that makes me feel like I'm in the 1800s, trucking away in poverty but with loads of character..." DANCER UPSTAIRS "As a dancer, you need to be graceful, so you have to wear clothes well. And you have to throw things on quickly, so you like layers and drapes." ICE OUT "I don't wear jewelry. Once in a whil, I'll wear one cool earring or a decorative pin. But I have collarbones that really stick out, and you can't wear necklaces on collarbones like that'cause that area will look too busy." THRIFTY LIVING "Thrift-store dresses have a lot of character. I'll get like an old Victorian white dress and have the tailor remove the sash or change the buttons." SOLE SURVIVOR "Designer over-decorate their shoes so they look like little pieces of crappy jewelry. I was wearing one pair of black Prada men's shoes for like four year straight."
