With kooky honesty, Shannyn Sossamon embraces the contradiction of being a free spirit in a packaging factory. “I know that being pretty got me this opportunity,” she told The Times of London when A Knight’s Tale, her first movie, came out in 2001. In 2003, her career was interrupted by an unscripted pregnancy. At 28, she’s back with Wristcutters: A Love Story. You’re a single mom, correct ? It’s not a typical combination : young mom / up-and-coming movie actress. It was interesting timing when I got pregnant. The opportunities were there. Then it was just : “And, cut.” It definitely made the career part hand. The whole façade that goes along with being an actress – that’s gone. You have a boy – what’s his name ? Audio Aurius ? No, Audio. A-U-D-I-O. How did you come up with that ? The dad and I just liked the way it sounded. We wanted something unique, and were thinking of different words. That’s what a name is : just a word. His middle name is Science. Audio Science Clayton. It sounds like a brand at Circuit City. Maybe it’s a nod to your days spinning records ? I was a DJ when I was younger, but it didn’t have anything to do with it. Wristcutters isn’t a typical Hollywood romance. Do you think you’d be good in a traditional, meet-cute story ? Even though I’m an actress, sometimes I can’t adapt to vanilla cookie-cutter romantic comedies. It makes me want to die. That could work for a disease romance. Maybe a Love Story remake. I wish I could be in old Woody Allen stuff. I think I’m perfect for romantic comedy. I just need the right filmmaker. By David DeNicolo Allure magazine – August 2007 Transcribed by Lee for SSO. |
